A man from San Francisco, by the name of Charles Fey, invented slot machines in 1895. These first slots were one liners, one wager level and the payout was provided by the proprietor and not the slot machine. These slots were called the Liberty Bell due to one of the images on a reel was the Liberty Bell. The slots were physically extremely large and made from cast iron, making them weigh in at over 400 lbs. Mr. Fey could not keep up with the demand for his popular new gaming device and other manufacturers quickly filled the gap and brought more slots to market. Also advances were very quickly brought to market like an electric slot instead of a pure mechanical device. These came out as soon as electricity was available to the saloons and casinos.
Video Poker is one of the slot variations that has a great following by slot players. The games are fun to play, captivating, skill can make the outcome of the spin change and winning in a session is not that difficult to do. The payouts per spin can be very juicy as power hands have big payouts per the hand schedule that is posted for every game. Be careful when picking a game as the payout schedule can vary from one game to an identical game on the same site. Play the game with the better schedule for higher hands.
The classic slots three reelers are still fun to play and players get wins very often, but not very big jackpots. The images on the three reels are fruits and the number seven on many of the classic machines. Players like to visit the time of the one armed bandits which were the mainstay of casinos around the world for many years. I can still remember playing the nickel slots in Reno when I was a young Air Force officer and stationed at Stead Air Force base. |
